So one of the times an MCX fleet got through, one very smart tactic that was used was (please see Pic 1) was to hang out in Position A, out of range of all but Halos 1 and 2, one of which would be already destroyed:
So I changed the path of my base, which will leave the fleet in full range of all but the two northernmost halos:
This approach is not without drawbacks however: the attacker's path is shorter. It prevents me from placing a turret to discourage rimming my northeastern flank. And it puts my shipyard in harm's way earlier than before.
So, the $64,000 question: Should I go with Pic 2 or revert back to the way it was before, Pic 1?

If the opposing fleet gets to Pointg A, your base is dead anyhow isn't it? A halo will only stop someone if they are sitting still.. Once a fleet is moving, even DNX the halos would get em. I think you are probably short a cerb, possibly 2. Personally if I was driving a mcx I wou;ld be tempted not to kill all your howies. I just don't think they hit hard enough to cause huge problems. But Cerbs will make someone stop to clear and that gives your halos more chance to work. Also you can maybne think of mixing your halos too. In my base I have 2 with Scramjet and the other with thermobaric. So the scrams protect me from rimming and the thermo does the damage when the ships are under all guns.
ReplyDeleteKaybs, the fleet was almost dead when it hid there and picked off Halo 2 and then the rest of the stuff at his leisure. If he didn't have safe haven I'd have gotten him. Two of the howies will eventually be repurposed but I've spent the last two months plus installing the halos and the javs.
ReplyDeleteAlso the halo does plenty of damage to moving targets - yes, DX's moreso than MCX's, but they get their licks in.
Plus, Australian people suck.
Correct me if I dont understand but it seems to me that if your MCX driver got to point A he has presumably killed your entire front row of turrets plus your base fleet. On that basis he can do whatever he pleases even if virtually dead. All he really has to kill is either 1 or 2 rail guns. A MCX in particular, and most DNX can outrun a halo. My understanding is about 18 mph or knots is fast enough to do that. The only time the halos may catch one on the move is when trying to turn around to go back out. Given the same circumstances Pic 2 only helps by putting him under the Western Jav. Not sure if there is a dead space he can reach to the north. Maybe you need to check that out but it probably means only 1 extra Jav shot given the reload lag.
ReplyDeleteAussie girls suck nicely, not sure about the boys..... I don't swing that way!
